Earn 100,000 Points With The Amex Platinum 100k Offer
If you are into travel and have been on the Internet the last few hours then you have probably already applied and have been approved. If not, keep reading.
The Amex Platinum 100k Offer
Every so often American Express feels generous and hangs this magma-hot apple pie of an offer out on the window sill and the crowd goes wild! You can sign up here (not an affiliate link).
Why? Because it’s 100,000 points. That’s a lot of points. Citi did this last year with the AAdvantage Executive MasterCard, but those points where only good on American Airlines. American Express Membership Rewards points are good at a myriad of transfer parters. You can also use Membership Rewards points for gifts, vacations and electronics. But it’s not all about the points. The card is an industry travel weapon of choice. Not only is there a lot of prestige for carrying the card, the additional benefits make the $450 annual fee more than worth its weight.
No, it’s not a fancy heavy metal card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP), its just plastic, but there’s gold in them platinum plastic hills!
You can transfer your Membership Points to 14 airlines and 4 hotel reward programs. The diversity of the points only gives you an advantage over most cards.
Malaysia Airlines Enrich
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Air France/KLM Flying Blue
Starwood Preferred Guest
$100 = 18,000 points (~$0.0055/point)
$500 = 90,000 points (~$0.0055/point)
There are a lot of benefits, too many to count, but here are a few of the most beneficial for the frequent traveler to have.
Centurion Lounge Access
TSA PreCheck / Global Entry Reimbursement
$200 Airline Rebate
Boingo Wi-Fi Access
Starwood Gold Status
Hilton HHonors Gold Elite
This card is only as good as the use you put into it. If you don’t travel a lot, then you may just want to skip the hard pull on your credit. Also, you should keep in mind that there are no simple accidents when it comes to credit card appliation links. All it takes is a few keystrokes to kill a link or stop processing applicaitons. I firmly believe that many will apply with good intentions and then they will fall into two camps:
Never meet the $3000 spend requirement, therefore forfieting not only their opportunity to collect 100k points, but to every try again.
Take the points and run…cancelling a year later, never to have the opportunity again.
I know, a little fatalistic on a great deal, but I just want to put that out there. Last reminder. If you recently went after the Starwood or Hilton offers, then you also have to content with multiple spend requirements. That can add up, especially if you are looking to put serveral thousand dollars on the right card to earn the right points.
The Amex Platinum 100k offer is a great deal and 9 out of 10 times I would say go for it. You never know when it will come around again.
